Subject: Did We Kill the Woolies?

I was just discussing the recent demise of Woolworths and everyone around the table admitted to stealing something, at sometime, from them (a pick'n'mix piece or pack of Polos, etc.) in a way it was a right of passage for the youth of Britain over the past 100 years.

So, that got me thinking, if everyone took one item from Woolies, then that would mean a huge loss over the years. In fact, even if you just allowed for one item per minute from of the 807 stores at sometime in the past (for the sake of argument) 1 year. Let's also suppose that each item cost only 10p.

So that's 10p x 807 (stores) x 60 (minutes) x 8 (hours) x 6 (days) x 52 (weeks) = £12 million.

Wow.

So if this happened every year for the past 100 years = £1.2 billion

Their total debt was £385 million, which is a third of the total above.

So, does that mean 'we' killed the Woolies?
