Subject: Perfect website, or perfect advert?

It’s easy to get yourself a perfect website, apparently. The Social Issues Research Centre (SIRC) collected data on the subject on behalf of hosting company, Rackspace, which in turn formulated the equation for a perfect website.

Listen up at the back, here’s the science bit. The perfect website formula is:

Pwebsite = {((14.14*EaseNav) + (13.56*Speed) + (13.11*CleanDes) + (10.89*Func) + (10.89*Up)) - ((12.63*Pops) + (10.32*Ads) + (5.21*MultiM))} / 6.26

Where:

Pwebsite = a perfect website
(Good things)
EaseNav = ease of navigation
Speed = speed of site
CleanDes = clean design
Func = functionality of site
Up = uptime of site
(Bad things)
Pops = pop ups
Ads = adverts
MultiM = flash and other multimedia things

So let’s look a little deeper at this shall we. OK, the good things are speed of site and uptime (that’s bandwidth and hosting isn’t it?) while bad things are adverts and flash (that’s a drain on bandwidth and therefore things that ‘slow’ a site down and effect speed of site). So, apart from design and usability, the key to a perfect website is?

Come on, come on. You. Small geek at the back. What is it? Yes! It’s perfect hosting. And who’s marketing this formula? Yes, it’s the perfect hosting company.

Anyway, Thoughtbubble managed a 98% for our website, so the science must be true (ahem), especially when the test website allows you to rate yourself.
