Besides being an avid internet user since its birth way back in time and a web designer for the last 10 years, I have never blogged before so this is my first, and perhaps last, attempt at it! Since the first time I checked out AltaVista, I have always been a fan of the search engine and its usefulness to find the answer to almost anything in a few seconds just by ‘Google-ing it’.

However, even with many years experience in the trade, it has always confused me quite why great search engine rankings are so difficult to achieve and maintain consistently, this was until the 10th October... I’ll explain...

A short while back I started working for Thoughtbubble and my desk is right next to this guy called Tim Ireland who, I was told, is responsible for looking after all any SEO (search engine optimisation) that our clients contract. I had thought at the time ‘now that’s a black art, I should have a chat with him about all that’ but ironically, we hadn’t had much time to chat about much due to current projects.

So on the 10th October I was pleased to attend the Google4grown-ups seminar hosted by us (in the royal sense of the word) and was, quite honestly, blown away by the in-depth knowledge and experience of the host speaker dark lord Tim Ireland, who - after a little bit of research, I find to be one of the finest SEO experts in the UK and can say, without hesitation that I wish I had attended this seminar 10 years ago (enough praise for you now Tim).

I had always thought that if someone knew the URL of a site they wanted to visit, they would just type that in the address bar - duh, like of course they would. How wrong could I have been?! If you look into in in more detail, Clearly people don’t do this. All of the historical reporting from the search engines prove this to be the case - did you know that one of the top search terms entered into Google’s search engine is, in fact, Google!!! It seems that people go for the easy option and type what they want into google. This means that placement in the search rankings, is more important than ever and any business with a web presence needs to look and see how they can improve their chances of keeping or gaining as much business as they can and it seems Tim is your guy!

We are looking at holding more seminars on the same subject over the coming months in a town near you! With afternoon workshop sessions offering some case study on your very own site(s) and how we could get you some immediate results.

We’ll keep you posted with all of the information right here...

Perhaps I’ll be back for another blog???
